August 2024 | Volume 34; Issue 12

From the Executive Director's Desk

August is the 11th month of our agency fiscal year with many of our grants/contracts closing in September. Project Directors and fiscal staff will be busy monitoring end-of-year expenditures and setting up FY’25 budgets.

It is hard to believe summer is ending! Head Start staff have been busy preparing for the new school year! Head Start rosters are being finalized, classrooms are being prepared, health fairs are being organized and in-services are scheduled to equip staff with the essential training and resources for the upcoming school year.

Staff are continuing to adjust to the merger of the Iowa Department of Human Services and Iowa Department of Public Health. The process for submitting reports, budget revisions, participating in meetings, etc. has changed for some of our agency programs. However, overall, the transition has been smooth.

The Energy Services/CSBG staff have been participating in computer training for the new CSBG database. They will also be participating in training for the new LiHEAP data system that will be implemented October 1st. Thank you to the staff for their patience with learning two new systems at one time!

The Child Care Services staff have been busy implementing the new FY’25 contracts which include additional services as well as additional staff. CCR&R recently released a new logo! Check out the CCR&R website and social media accounts for a look at their new brand identity! It looks great!

WIC staff had a busy summer with the added task of distributing Farmer’s Market checks to eligible participants. This program is an excellent opportunity for families to purchase additional fruits and vegetables during the summer months!

Wishing everyone a smooth transition from summer to the school year as well as a safe and bountiful harvest season!

Respectfully,

Cindy Harpenau

Executive Director
